Company information
Vox is built by Buir Lake Laboratories Limited, a founder-led research studio in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. This page describes the laboratory behind the product and identifies the legal entity that contracts with users and processes payments for the Vox service.
The laboratory
Buir Lake Laboratories was incorporated in Hong Kong in February 2025. We are a small, founder-led research studio building tools for professionals whose work depends on complex knowledge — scientists, engineers, and the growing number of knowledge workers whose daily workflow now includes an AI collaborator.
Our thesis is straightforward: the tools that defined the last century of professional work — the keyboard, the scholarly journal, the laboratory instrument — were not designed for an era in which humans collaborate with AI. The laboratory exists to build the next generation of those tools, and our portfolio reflects that mission across three active product lines.
Product lines
- Vox — AI voice interface
- A voice-first input interface that turns spoken speech into polished, professional text. Designed for users who work across multiple languages and need to interact with AI faster than they can type. This is the site you are on.
- Academic Communications — scholarly publishing
- Buir Lake publishes Optical Biology, a peer-reviewed open-access journal at biology.ac. Our broader goal in this line is to reduce the manuscript, review, and publication overhead that weighs on working scientists, so that the exchange of ideas becomes the centre of scholarly life.
- Optical Instruments — precision hardware
- Our founding business line. Buir Lake is the exclusive international distribution partner for Ultrafast Quantum Photonics (Beijing) Ltd., bringing optical parametric amplifiers, transient absorption spectrometers, and Raman microscopy systems to research institutions worldwide.
How Vox came to be
Vox was not originally planned as a separate product. It began as an internal workflow tool: while building AI-augmented publishing tools in a multilingual environment, we kept hitting the same bottleneck — the keyboard. Professionals who think in more than one language, or in specialised vocabulary, cannot talk to AI as fluently as they can think. So we built the input layer we needed, and then released it as a product for everyone who shares the same problem.
